Ports, marinas and clubs throughout Italy are overwhelmed in these hours by what look like full-blown hurricanes, phenomena that before today, let’s face it, we had only seen on television and across the ocean. After the abnormally hot weather, which lasted until a few days ago, now autumn seems to be unleashed all of a sudden, and not even the breakwaters of ports such as Rapallo, Liguria, where a wave swept away the wall of the as if it were made of sand, are not resisting nature’s fury.
The situation affects all of Italy and beyond with heavy rainfall and winds reaching 80 knots, as told from La Spezia by a very reliable source: navigator Giovanni Soldini. In these frantic moments we are getting videos from all over Italy of sunken boats, ships at the mercy of the storm(you can find them on our Instagram channel). Eight confirmed dead. Unfortunately, in Calabria, Catanzaro, there is also a sailor missing at sea, again due to bad weather.

It is still too early to start counting the damage, partly because this “hurricane” has not yet finished unloading its full force, but there will certainly be enormous damage both to private individuals who have had their boats sunk and to clubs and sports associations on the sea. Rapallo is a pile of boats, the road to Portofino has collapsed due to waves, and the small town can only be reached by sea.
