One of the large open yachts that is taking the scene this year is undoubtedly the Solaris Power 60 Open, a sleek and modern 18.29-meter that, in line with the rest of the Solaris range, focuses strongly on seaworthiness and sailing quality, but not only that. Available with three distinct enginesand as many interior layouts.

High freeboard, folding broadside, plenty of lounge areas and classy looks. Aesthetics aside, however, the interior layout is also noteworthy and suitable for longer sailings.

Solaris Power 60 Open – Exterior
Thanks to the line, this hull offers significant bow spaces and protected passages, deflecting splashes and keeping the deck dry. Navigational quality is, in fact, a central theme for the yard. Folding bulwarks in the cockpit, on the other hand, expand the surface area, thus offering a true aft terrace on the sea, slender at the stern and protected, amidships, by an open hard top.

As an open boat, the outdoor spaces are all immersed in the surrounding landscape, creating a continuous environment that moves from the large aft sundeck (hiding the tender garage), to the more convivial area that makes up the cockpit, served by sofas, tables and wet-bar/galley.

In the bow, an additional sundeck in the deckhouse once again offers an outdoor lounge area, reached via the walkways bordering the bridge, protected by windshield and hard top and served by four ergonomic seats. Here, too, is access to the interior, where different layouts offer the most suitable solutions for the individual owner.

Interior
Inside there are various solutions to choose from according to need. The new 60 Open is offered with two or three double cabins and, in this case, the forward double is unchanged, mirrored by a large aft master stateroom. What changes, however, is the alternation of a third cabin, twin, in the three-cabin layout, or a saloon, in the two-cabin layout.

There is also a third solution, also with three cabins, but which does not sacrifice the interior saloon, thus translating the full-beam forward cabin into an owner’s cabin, at the expense of the former aft cabin, now divided into two, with a double on the port side and a twin with single beds on the port side. Finally, there is no lack of space for the sailor’s quarters.

Motorization and Performance
Last, but not least, the engine and performance component, such as interior layouts, vary on the Solaris Power 60 Open. In fact, there are three engines available, all Volvo Penta, but declined on a pair of 600-horsepower D6 IPS 800s, a pair of 725-horsepower D6 IPS 950s and, finally, a pair of 1000-horsepower D13 IPS 1350s. Variable, therefore, is also the performance of the brand’s new 60-footer, which thus offers peak top speeds of 30, 34 and 39 knots, respectively. The same is applied to cruising speeds of 25 knots with the IPS 800, 28 knots with the IPS 950, and 30 knots with the IPS 1350. In each case, the fuel tank will instead maintain the same capacity, 3,000 liters of embarkable diesel.

When we write our tests, we talk about live opera, dead opera, skids and deadrise. All these names, to the most experienced are clear, but not everyone is familiar with the technical jargon. Yet these terms are fundamental to understanding
