Autonomy and performance in recreational boating today take a step forward with a new boating partnership. Candela C-8, the latest from Candela (electric, foil-equipped and already a best-seller), will be able to be propelled with the support of the batteries and charging system of Polestar, the subsidiary of Volvo Cars that specializes in the production of high-performance and electric cars.
Thus Polestar officially debuts in the boating world together with another Swedish company that is carving out a starring role, namely, Candela.

. Automotive lands aboard this electric motor boat that will take advantage of the 69 kWh battery and the same DC charging technology as the Polestar 2 Standard Range.
It’s not just any boat that Polestar has chosen, but the best-selling electric of 2022. A model, then, with remarkable numbers for its target segment.

What changes? With this configuration, the promise is 57 nautical miles on a single charge at a cruising speed of 22 knots.
If we imagine a small open like this, to be used for short day trips and then mainly for swimming, nearly 60 nautical miles is a more than attractive figure, especially when traveled at 22 knots. Numbers that also approach in terms of performance the standard of combustion boating, a yardstick from which it is difficult to escape.

Candela C-8 powered by Polestar marks an important step forward for electrification at sea.”
The Candela C-8 combines the use of foils with highly advanced software to “stand up” on these appendages and reduce friction. In this way, less energy is required, thus lowering consumption. Another treat is this boat’s POD engine, the
C-POD
patented by Candela. Numbers in hand, this can reduce fuel consumption by more than 80 percent compared to a classic motor boat.
In addition to Polestar 2’s 69 kWh battery, Polestar will also provide DC fast-charging technology, as well as share research and development capabilities to integrate the technology and software in marine context thus transferring it from land to sea.
